The production of figured glass, which features decorative textures or patterns, involves a two-step process: first creating a flat glass base and then applying texture or shape through secondary processing. Below is a structured description based on relevant industrial methods.

(1)  Production of flat glass base

Molten glass, composed of raw materials like silica sand, soda ash, and limestone, is melted in a furnace at approximately 1550°C to form a homogeneous, bubble-free liquid.

This liquid flows into a float bath containing molten tin, where it spreads uniformly due to gravity and surface tension, resulting in a flat, polished surface with consistent thickness (typically 3-19 mm).

The glass ribbon is gradually cooled in an annealing lehr to relieve internal stresses, then cut into standardized sheets after inspection.

(2)Texture or sample application (Secondary process)

For ‌textured surfaces‌ (e.g., frosted or geometric patterns), patterned rollers press the glass during cooling to imprint permanent designs, often involving grinding or molding techniques for decorative effects.

For ‌curved or 3D shapes‌ (e.g., automotive or architectural elements), the flat glass is reheated to its softening point (around 600°C) and formed using custom molds under pressure or gravity to achieve complex contours
