Customized Capacity Float Glass Production Line Automatic Tin Bath for Float Glass Processing

Customized Capacity Float Glass Production Line Automatic Tin Bath for Float Glass Processing

1. Brief Description

The name of float glass is because of the glass liquid floating and forming on a metallic tin liquid surface. By using this forming method, it is not need to overcome the gravity of the glass, it can enlarge the width of the glass, and it can improve the speed of stretch. The capacity and scale of production can be increased by using the forming method.

Float glass is sheet glass made by floating molten glass on a bed of molten tin. This method gives the glass uniform thickness and a very flat surface. Float glass is more commonly known as window glass. Because it is inexpensive and sometimes free, it is often used in the glass fusing process. The molten glass spreads onto the surface of the metal and produces a high quality, consistent level sheet of glass that is later heat polished. The glass has no wave or distortion and is now the standard method for glass production; over 90% of the world production of flat glass is float glass.

The float glass has a flatness surface, excellent optical performance, no distortions, due to its good quality, the yield of float glass can be used for deep processing fabrication.‌‌ The production process of float glass mainly is composed of five core processes, such as batching, melting, tin bath forming, annealing treatment, cutting and sorting.

2. Characteristic

Because the glass liquid forms on the metallic tin liquid surface, it could achieve a high grade double faced fired polishing glass surface. The parallelism and flatness of float glass are as better as mechanical polishing effect, but it has a better mechanical capacity and chemical stability than mechanical polishing glass.

5. Technical Flow Chart of Float Glass Line

  • Qualified batching materials transfer to the furnace for melting.
  • Melted glass liquid flows onto tin bath and form a glass plate through mechanical and chemical methods.
  • When the temperature of glass plate reduced around 600°C, it will conveyor into annealing lehr and relief the stress.
  • After inspection and cutting, the yield glass product conveyors to packing area.

6. Main Equipment Description

6.1 Batch Plant

It is used For batching and mixing the raw materials.

6.2 Furance

The melting tank is key part of glass production line,so it is very important to ensure the quality of refractory material.

6.3 Tin Bath

Tin bath is the key forming equipment of float glass production process. Glass liquid is floating on the surface of meling tin liquid (7.3 g/cm³). It is flattened, polished, thinned and cooled by gravity and surface tension to form a glass ribbon with even thickness and flat surface.

It is mainly used in the production process. The molten glass is flattened evenly and cooled to harden on the tin liquid surface. Finally, it forms the flat glass plate. The characteristics of tin bath has the stable structure, which can ensure that the molten glass spread evenly and cool fastly.

6.4 Protection Gas Station

The protection gas station shall operate continuously to produce and supply the required gas for tin bath.

Normally, Nitrogen gas (N2) and Hydrogen gas (H2) gas are to be used as protection gas. Which is mainly for preventing or reducing the oxidation of metallic tin liquid.

Nitrogen gas, a kind of colorless and odorless gas, which is a main component of protection gas, with a dissociation states in nature. An inert gas as nitrogen gas, it can not combust in air nor dissolve in water, which can prevent the oxidization of metallic tin, and no reaction between nitrogen gas and metallic tin.
Hydrogen gas is a lightest, colorless and odorless combustion gas, mainly existing under compound state. It is a strong reducing agent, with min viscosity, high conductivity and strong chemical activity, which can have chemical reaction with many materials to produce various kinds of hydride.

6.5. Annealing Lehr

The purpose of glass annealing is to eliminate the internal residual stress and optical heterogeneity of float glass in order to stabilize the internal structure of glass.

Actually, glass annealing process also a cooling process, it need to control the cooling speed according to different thickness and requirements. The residual stress in glass after annealing shall meet the requirement. Meantime, the temporary stress produced during annealing should not be too much, otherwise the glass will crack in annealing lehr.
6.6. Cold-end

It mainly divides into three sections for cold-end part in float glass production line. Details are following:

  • Inspection and pretreatment section
  • Cutting and break section
  • Stacker and packing section

The cold end automation functional area of float glass production line can be divided into several functional areas, such as emergency area, quality inspection area, cutting area, separation area, transmission area and fragmentation area. Specific terms, the cold end emergency zone between annealing kiln and scale structure, through the use of cutting and fall plate equipment, of emergency treatment of glass production environment. The cold end quality inspection area mainly tests and evaluates the glass production defects, grades the glass defects in the production line, and carries out the glass cutting work according to the technical requirements. Cold end separation zone is in the glass, on the basis of production requirements, by means of transmission speed control, enlarge the distance between the glass and glass, in the process, to ensure the efficiency of the speed control, in most cases, use servo motor to adjust the transmission rate, reduce subsequent glass transmission and the objective requirement of the packing work.
