1. Brief Description
 

Glass is a special amorphous inorganic non-metallic material. The main component is silicate, a non-crystalline solid with an irregular structure.
In 1961, the Belgian Grave Bell company pioneered the production process of flat glass. Under this process, it can achieve a glass thickness of 0.8 mm to 12 mm.
Glass melting is the most important process in glass production. It is a forming process that uniformly forms batches of materials into qualified liquid without bubbles under high temperature heating.
The melting process is divided into the following five stages, each of which has its internal connections and influences each other. If the performance of one stage is not perfect, it will affect the next stage and ultimately affect the quality of glass.

 

Physicochemical changes in each glass melting stage:
  • Silicate forming
In this stage, the components of batched materials will produce a physicochemical solid phase reaction during heating process, in which the gaseous products will be released from the batched materials and produce a new opacity sinter ultimately, which is formed by silicate and SiO2.
  • Glass liquid forming
In this stage, the sinter will be melting and the silicate and SiO2 in sinter will change to flint glass liquid with a plenty of bubbles. However, its chemical components and character are not even.
  • Clearing
The glass liquid is continuously heated, and its viscosity is reduced with plenty of gaseous sundries released, which should eliminate the visible bubbles with the pool of liquid.
  • Homogenization
The glass liquid is kept at high temperature for a long time, and the ripples are eliminated by the diffusion function, and the whole is uniform. The homogenization temperature can be lower than the clarification stage.

In glass technology, annealing means to put the glass into the annealing lehr for a certain time or reduce the temperature with a slow speed, so as to no additional permanent stress or temporary stress will produce. Namely, annealing also means a process which will reduce or eliminate the thermal stress of glass.
