1. Brief Description
The name of float glass is because of the glass liquid floating and forming on a metallic tin liquid surface. By using this forming method, it is not needed to overcome the gravity of the glass, it can enlarge the width of the glass, improve the speed of stretch, and increase the capacity and scale of production.
In 1965, China started to research and develop its own float glass technology and successfully put into production and exported the float glass products and technology to the world.
The float glass process creates a highly flat surface, excellent optical performance, no distortions, due to its good quality, the high yield float glass can be used for deep processing fabrication.
Because the glass liquid forms on the metallic tin liquid surface, it can achieve a high-grade double faced fire polished glass surface. The parallelism and flatness of float glass is much better than mechanical polishing effects, but it has a better mechanical capacity and chemical stability than mechanically polished glass.
3. Raw Materials
According to the quantity and function of the materials, it can be divided into main materials and auxiliary materials.
Main materials consist of:

5. Main Equipment Description
5.1. Tin Bath
Glass liquid floats on the metallic tin, through stretching, forming, polishing and cooling processes, a qualified glass plate is formed and its temperature reduces to around 600°C, the transition roller will send the plate to the annealing lehr.
5.2. Protection Gas Station
The protection gas station shall operate continuously to produce and supply the required gas for the tin bath.
Besides the good melting efficiency, the bright and clean surface of metallic tin is also another important key to producing good float glass products. So, an inert gas or reducing gas is to be adopted for a kind of protection gas to prevent the tin from oxidizing.
Nitrogen gas, a kind of colorless and odorless gas, which is a main component of protection gas, with a dissociation states in nature. An inert gas as nitrogen gas, it cannot combust in air nor dissolve in water, which can prevent the oxidization of metallic tin, and there is no reaction between nitrogen gas and metallic tin.
Hydrogen gas is a light weight, colorless and odorless combustion gas, mainly existing under compressed state. It is a strong reducing agent, with minimum viscosity, high conductivity and strong chemical activity, which can have chemical reaction with many materials to produce various kinds of hydride.
5.2. Annealing Lehr
In glass technology, annealing means to put the glass into the annealing lehr for a certain time tor reduce the temperature with a slow speed, so as to not add additional permanent stress or temporary stress. Namely, annealing also means a process which will reduce or eliminate the thermal stress of glass.
